Are there benefits to spaying and neutering a rabbit or guinea pig?

 Absolutely!

Spaying and neutering has many benefits for your little pet. Here are just a few of the benefits:

Male Guinea Pigs:

·        Completely prevents testicular disease

·        Virtually eliminates the potential for “impaction”.  This is a condition in which the rectal muscles atrophy causing an impaction of the feces in the anal sac.  This messy and uncomfortable problem needs to be cleaned out daily by the male guinea pigs owner.

·        Prevents aggressive behavior between two male guinea pigs, or prevents breeding in male/female pairs.

Female Guinea Pig:

·        Helps prevent uterine and mammary cancer

·        Helps prevent ovarian cysts

Male Rabbits:

·        Completely prevents testicular disease

·        Behavioral problems like aggression and urine spraying will be reduced or eliminated.

·        Prevents aggression between males and breeding between male/female pairs.

·        Litterbox training is more reliable in neutered males

Female Rabbits:

·        Helps prevent mammary and uterine cancer

·        Helps prevent ovarian cysts and false pregnancy

·        Behavioral problems like aggression and urine spraying will be reduced or eliminated

·        Litterbox training is more reliable in spayed females.
