Parasites can invade your pet's gastro-intestinal tract or other internal or external parts of your pet's body. They are not only a threat to your animal's health, but they can be a threat to your health as well.
Internal parasites, such as tapeworm, can invade your pet, living in their intestines and making your pet experience pain and discomfort. What's more, one tapeworm in your pet can produce billions of eggs and infect you and your family. To test for this parasite, stool samples are needed.
Tapeworms aren't the only internal parasites your pet can be infected with. There are also:
- Roundworms
- Hookworms
- Whipworms
There are both topical and oral medications that can be taken to kill internal parasites. Procsciptions are available for pets tested for parasites, who are found to be infected.
External parasites are more commonly known as fleas and ticks.
